The Tuskegee Airmen of World War IIBy Nancy Niles Sexton Until the Second World War, African-Americans were denied the right to pilot aircraft for the United States Air Corps. When finally given the opportunity, the Tuskegee Airmen were assembled to begin training in Alabama. By the war's end, it was evident that they had played a vital part in victories in Europe and in North Africa. With impressive medals for bravery in battle, including the Purple Heart and many Distinguished Flying Crosses, they opened the way for the integration of the American armed forces. The play is set in June 1944, shortly after D-Day. The war in Europe is almost over. It is time to remember. It is time to go home and face the new challenges that lie ahead. Audience This one-person show is available for elementary, middle and high schools, churches, and community organizations. Performance Length The performance is 45-minutes long with 15-minutes allotted for questions and answers. Location All performances take place at your school or organization. A Message of HopeDeveloped by Keith McGill & Dan Welch Nation in Crisis brings students back to the Civil Rights Era. In this interactive production students witness key events and meet civil rights leaders of this turbulent time. Beginning in 1948 with a soldier of the Tuskegee Airmen returning home to an uncertain future, the audience sees the courage acts of Rosa Parks and the Arkansas Nine and hear the inspiring words of Martin Luther King, Jr. This performance brings to light how race relations of the past still relate to present day, while bringing a message of hope to a new generation. Nation in Crisis, is a one-person show presented as a part of Walden Theatre's Outreach Education Program, and is available for middle and high schools, church and community organizations. Audience This one-person show is available for elementary, middle and high schools, churches, and community organizations. Performance Length The performance is 45-minutes long with 15-minutes allotted for questions and answers. Location All performances take place at your school or organization. Mary Todd Lincoln, The Early YearsBy Nancy Niles Sexton Eternal Love tells of the early years of Mary Todd Lincoln's life, not often written about. This is the story of her childhood, adolescence, and her courtship and marriage to Abraham Lincoln. It is the tale of a spirited young Kentuckian who falls in love with a man who, unfortunately, is not adored by her family because they felt he was not "of her class". However, from their first meeting Mary Todd is fascinated by the tall, serious young lawyer she meets while visiting her sister in Springfield, Illinois... Audience This one-person show is available for middle and high schools. Performance Length The performance is 45-minutes long with 15-minutes allotted for questions and answers. Life of Thomas EdisonBy Nancy Niles Sexton Meet one of the century's greatest inventors in the touring production, Inventing the Century, The Life of Thomas Edison. In this one-person production Thomas Edison talks about his life starting in his youth as a candy butcher on the train to working as a telegraph operator in Louisville, Kentucky to his most famous achievement the incandescent light bulb. Audience This is suited for elementary and middle school students. Performance Length The performance is 35-minutes with 15-minutes allotted for questions and answers. Adapted from the play Flood 1937!By Nancy Niles Sexton This one-person production follows one woman's personal account of the trials and tribulations, living through the Louisville flood of 1937. Taken from diary accounts of girls from Shaunee High School, see how Louisville came together as a community to help one another. Audience This one-person show is available for middle and high schools, church and community organizations. Performance Length This program is 30-minutes with a 10 minute question and answer session immediately following. Location All performances take place at your school or organization.
