Since 1976, Walden Theatre has progressively expanded its mission and inspired students to greater success.

Milestones

2005

  • Walden Theatre production The Three Musketeers opens Frazier Arms Museum's Cultural Arts Center.
 

2004

  • Fourth student in eight years accepted at The Juilliard School
  • Alumna lands starring role in feature film, White Chicks
 

2003

  • Students appear in Archie Borders feature film, Paper Cut
  • Student wins Apollo Theatre talent contest
  • Alumna appears in TV drama "Hack"
 

2002

  • Alumna appears in The Crucible on Broadway with Laura Linney and Liam Neeson
 

2001- 2002

  • KET broadcasts pieces on Outreach Program's Conflict Resolution offerings
 

2001

  • Students appear in Stu Pollards' feature film Nice Guys Sleep Alone
  • Alumnus has a regular part in CBS daytime drama, The Guiding Light
 

2000

  • Walden Theatre becomes a constituent member of Theatre Communications Group
 

1999

  • Nancy Niles Sexton retires, Charlie Sexton becomes Artistic Director.
 

1998

  • KET broadcasts California Raisins, part of the 1998 Young Playwrights Festival
 

1997

  • Walden purchases, and moves into building at 1123 Payne Street
 

1994

  • The Wings of Heroes opened "Kentuckians and World War II" at the Kentucky Military Museum
  • Nancy Niles Sexton selected to head KET's Playwrighting Project
  • Nancy Niles Sexton part of KET Shakespeare Task Force
 

1993

  • The Wings of Heroes tours Washington State
  • On Second Thought...from the Young Playwrights Festival shown on KET
 

1992

  • Walden Theatre produces The Wings of Heroes: The Tuskegee Airmen of World War II
 

1991

  • Dramatic Publishing Company publishes Snap Judgments
 

1990

  • Dramatic Publishing Company publishes Choices
 

1989

  • Walden Theatre produces Courage as part of Classics in Context Festival
  • KET produces Sharing the Gift, a documentary on Walden Theatre
  • KET broadcasts Courage
  • Walden Theatre participates in the Edinburgh (Scotland) Festival Fringe
 

1986

  • Dramatic Publishing Company published Inside Out / Upside Down and In Sight
  • Aluma appears on Broadway in Les Liasons Dangereuses
  • Walden Theatre produces world premier of In Mortality, by John Pielmeier (author of Agnes of God)
 

1985

  • Walden Theatre becomes a member agency of the Louisville Fund for the Arts
  • Inside Out / Upside Down performed at the Kennedy Center and filmed by WHAS-TV
 

1984

  • The Wayfarer performed for the Conference of the National Council of Negro Women
  • Dramatic Publishing Company publishes Rites
 

1983

  • Dramatic Publishing Company publishes Glimpses
 

1982

  • William Morris Agency represents Walden Theatre
  • Nancy Niles Sexton keynote speaker at Stratford (Canada) Shakespeare Festival
 

1981

  • Packard: Stories of an Eastern KY Coal Camp tours Southwestern United States with the College of Santa Fe
 

1980

  • Packard tours Germany with Catholic University.
 

1979

  • Anchorage Press publishes My Days as a Youngling
  • My Days as a Youngling filmed by WKPC-TV
 

1976

  • Nancy Niles Sexton produces the first Shakespeare Festival by young people in Kentucky
  • Walden Theatre Founded
